Pampas Nationaldag is one of the biggest student events in Svenskfinland, bringing thousands of people to Vaasa for a full day of activities.
We spoke with Todde Friberg, finance manager at Pampasmaffian, about how they organize the Olympiad and manage the transition into a large-scale evening event.
A central moment for the entire event
The day begins with the Olympiad, an open event held in Vaasa’s central square. While teams compete and crowds gather, another key part of the event is happening at the same time.
Students who have purchased tickets for the evening party line up to collect their wristbands. This makes the Olympiad not just a daytime activity, but a critical checkpoint for the entire event.
Ticket scanning for a smooth process
To collect their wristbands, students show their ticket purchased via Orbi, which is scanned on-site.
The ticket scanning feature has been easy to use. Even though I am the one who is responsible for ticket sales, the ticket scanning feature can be used by anyone to scan tickets. And it’s really nice to have everything in one app.
With large volumes of attendees, having a simple and reliable system helps keep queues moving and avoids unnecessary friction.
Keeping track of attendance at scale
For the organizing team, keeping on top of everything is key.
To have a clear overview of all the attendees is really important. We need to know who is attending if something happens, or to keep track of the total attendees. If you have events as big as ours, you’re going to need to inform the police. And it’s important to keep an eye on this.
